Ron Johnson commits to USC

Ron Johnson (a/k/a RoJo) is a no go for the Wolverines as he has just announced his verbal commitment to play for the defending Rose Bowl champion Southern California Trojans. Can't win 'em all.

UPDATE: Rashad Mason has committed to the University of North Carolina. That leaves only Jerimy Finch (who previously de-committed from Michigan) as a question mark as the Wolverines head to signing day on Wednesday, February 7, 2007. The recruiting class currently stands at 20 players.

UPDATE II: Jerimy Finch has announced his committment to the National Champion University of Florida Gators. His choice came a little bit out of the blue as he had allegedly narrowed his choices to Indiana or Michigan. Apparently not. Go Blue!

Of the top 25 Wideouts in the country this year, Michigan already has 4. Rojo and Rashad Mason would have been great, but I'm a little more concerned about getting Finch back and sealing the deal with Joey D'Andrea (DE) and Miles Stroter (OG).

Michigan is pretty tight at RB with Carlos Brown and Brandon Minor in the fold (lets hope they don't get restless and transfer).

They are good to go at WR with Savoy, Matthews, Manningham, Bass, Rogers (if he doesn't play CB), Arrington, Clemons, and others.

They have hope at QB for the next 4 or 5 years with big Mallet. Even at CB, the Wolverines are going to be okay with Warren, Sears, Trent, Harrison and Wolfolk. I see Sears and Trent starting in 07 with Warren playing the Nickle.

I'd like to have Finch, but I'm not really overly worried about safety either with Mouton, Mundy, Steve Brown and Jamar Adams all competing for jobs.

Thinking of a phrase from Henley's poem: "my head is bloodied, but unbowed", I said all that to say that losing those blue-chips stung a bit, but Michigan will very strong for the next 3 or 4 years. Go BLUE!!!

Mundy is not coming back for a fifth year, and Mouton has switched positions to play WILL.

Safety is looking a little leaner now, ain't it.

You did forget about Artis Chambers coming in a FS, who should be an impact freshmen. Look for him to contribute on ST next year, much like Stevie Brown, before starting to contribute in the secondary.
