Show No Mercy...What's next, "Sweep the leg."?

This picture is of the locker room door leading into the hallway just before the team enters the tunnel. This "motivational phrase" implemented by Coach Rodriguez seems to have been inspired by "The Karate Kid." Apparently, Coach Rod must be a big fan of Cobra Kai sensei John Kreese. What's next? Coach Rod instructing DT Mike Martin to "sweep the leg" while Mike Barwis is in the background screaming at the QB, "Get him a body bag, yeahhhhh!" Whatever happened to "Those Who Stay Will be Champions."? Go Blue!

This is sooooo wrong at so many levels. Even Michigan's supposed MMA fighter (I have yet to see any stats, posts, videos, pics...anything!)Barwis knows that there is a tap out rule. As long as Dick Rod is willing to be on the receiving end of that philosophy, I suppose it is okay for UM. That means no whining when he thinks that some better team "ran up the score" or should have been called for "playing too rough".

Ah yes...Michigan likes to brag that they prepare their players for the "real world"

Sad...but not unexpected from the "new, improved" coaching staff.

First, good catch/news item.

Eh, mostly I don't mind it. It's football- a little brutality is expected. And it's not like "Show No Mercy" means RichRod wants to team to cheat or play dirty, so I'm not worried.

One thing that does bother me, however- that the killer instinct has to be so forced into the team that they have to paint it on the friggin' door. The team should already have that instinct, and should already be getting it pounded into them by the coaching staff.

I hope this is simply overkill on the message, and not a "maybe they'll understand this" type of desperation teaching technique.

The above comment is the obvious sour grapes of a WVU fan.

Every CFB coach uses cheesy slogans as motivation. Where have you been?

"Show No Mercy"

-Maybe RR is just a big Slayer fan.

Ummm...RR might be using phrase as a motivational thing, that has been on the door since at least Sept 22, 2007. Thats when I took a tour of the locker room and have a picture standing next to that phrase.

If dan is not lying (see above), and there's absolutely no reason to think he's not, then you need to either delete this post or change it to clarify the sign's vintage. The point is to "Finish" like it says on the other door. The coach will pull you out of the game if he wants to show mercy to the other team -- that's not for you to decide.
